First off let me say that I would be inclined to agree with you on the point that a gun is at least near the bottom of the list of self defense weapons.
2. The Constitution is worded as “right to keep and bear arms” which should mean anything the government can have so can any citizen, drawing the line at nukes and biological or chemical weapons might be considerable but these weapons truely should be prohibited world wide, but I digress and that would lead to a whole different subject.
3. Correct me if I’m wrong here but didn’t Hitler ban guns? Except for his army/brainwashed minions which included children as young as 12 in combat and maybe his civilian supporters. I’m not a WWII buff but I can’t imagine that getting the people of 1930’s Germany disarmed would have been low on his list of things to do.
4. This right was/is given primarily to allow the people to protect themselves from government, street crime would have been an after thought for the framers of the Constitution of the United States of America.
5. If you had one wish and could completely rid the world of, even the memory of, ONE thing, what would it be? Assuming the goal is to make the world a better place to live. So if your answer is ‘humans’ then please go kill yourself if you feel that strongly about your answer. Sorry, that was channeling Bill Hicks there.
